Relson Gracie Belt System
In order to fully appreciate the art and lifestyle of Relson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, internal methods of assessment such as self-satisfaction should be the absolute goal. However, adult RSA belt promotions do have an important role and follow the Relson Gracie tradition of integrity and fairness. There are no formal or paid tests (except when obtaining a Black Belt certified by Grandmaster Relson) to obtain rank and belts are based on number of classes, time in grade and according to the careful observations of all of the RSA assistant and head instructors. Brown Belts and above must be able to perform and teach all techniques found in our RSA Gracie Basics Curriculum. Receiving a belt at the RSA is not an easy task - but every advancement will be a meaningful and rewarding affirmation of one's dedication and training.
Don't focus on the belt. Come to the academy on a regular basis, take class and train hard. The belt will come when you are ready and you will know then, you earned it.

We do not hand out belts for money, to grow our association or any other reason. Our identity as a team and organization is founded on honesty and integrity to the Helio Gracie system which was based on merit and commitment."
