Des’s Jiu-Jitsu journey began in 1997 shortly after his father witnessed Royce Gracie dominate in the UFC 1, UFC 2, and UFC 4 and enrolled Des and his brother in Relson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu on Waialae Avenue. There, he and his brother quickly excelled in the art winning many tournaments in both the teen and adult division. During his high school years, Des was able to win numerous wrestling tournaments including the O.I.A Championship twice and took silver in the Hawaii State Wrestling Championship in 2003. Upon graduating from high school, Des moved to Japan where he obtained experience on the international level. After moving back to Hawaii, he reunited with his instructor Relson Gracie and trained at the RSA since 2009. He continues to excel in competition. He is also a very passionate and devoted Christian that attends church on Sundays. Desmond Thain demonstrates the Musashi mindset toward the arts and he is also an expert painter and spear fisherman.
Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Lineage: Helio Gracie > Relson Gracie > Ronn Shiraki > Desmond Thain. |
Ronn has always been a role model for me growing up in the academy. The most technical, dedicated, and humble person you can come across. Whether you're an adult or kid he's always welcoming." |
