Relson Gracie RSA 2nd Degree Brown Belt Des’s Jiu-Jitsu journey began in 1997 shortly after his father witnessed Royce Gracie win the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 1, UFC 2, and UFC 4. Due to his father’s amazement and curiosity, he enrolled Des and his brother at the Relson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy on Waialae Avenue. There, he and his brother quickly excelled in the art winning many tournaments in both the teen and adult division. At the Relson Gracie Jiu-jitsu Academy, Des met instructors Ronn Shiraki and Brandon Ito which influenced him to broaden his horizons by joining the wrestling team upon entering high school. In high school, he was able to achieve major accomplishments winning numerous wrestling tournaments. Most notably, he won the O.I.A Championship twice and was also a state runner-up at the Hawaii State Wrestling Championship in 2003. Upon graduating from high school, Des moved to Japan where he gained more experience on the international level and excelled in competition. After moving back to Hawaii, he reunited with his instructors Ronn Shiraki and Relson Gracie at the Ronn Shiraki Academy. There he continued to excel in local competition racking up gold medals at numerous tournaments. He is also a very passionate and devoted Christian that attends church on Sundays.
